About Gila Bend
Gila Bend had been founded in 1872 and it is part of the Maricopa County in Arizona. The origin of the name resides in the 90 degrees bend into the Gila River. Gila Bend extends o 22.8 square miles of land and has a population of 2,055 people. With a density of 86.7 people per square mile the population in Gila Bend divides in 51.31% White, 1.31% African American, 10.25% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 32.42% from other races, and 4.34% from two or more races, with the special mention that 52.63% were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Father Eusebio Francisco Kino had discovered this place, situated near a prehistoric Honokan Indian Village in 1699, soon after it had been abandoned by an Indian tribe named Opas. The Indians were using the Gila River to irrigate their crops ate the rancheria.
Gila Bend is also known as the "Crossroads of the Southwest" for being an important transportation road while building and developing the Great Southwest. Gila Bend is a strategic area leading to and from all the southwest areas.
Gila Bend is not very famous regarding the tourist preferences. Among its particular features we could remind of the peculiar welcome sign, the roadside sculptures and the original architecture and décor of the Space Age Lodge motel and restaurant.
